Sermon Message: "The Secret to God's Peace"

Is God’s peace political? Yes. Is God’s peace personal? Yes. God’s peace is to mark our relationships with God, with each other, with other nations, and with the whole of creation—it’s comprehensive! God’s peace is a holistic peace that God wants to touch every aspect of human existence.

God’s peace is political. God is concerned with how governments, powers, and authorities treat people. ()

This might include: working for the advancement of democracy, human rights, and religious liberty; pushing for just and sustainable economic conditions through acts of compassion; or establishing dialogue between enemies

God’s peace is personal. God invites us into his peace and desires for our relationships to be marked by peace. One aspect of this is the inner sense of being settled and content emotionally. God develops this peace in us by assuring us that he is always with us and reminding us not to worry about the future.

God’s peace cushions the soul during difficult times, and regardless of troubled surroundings.(Gal. 5:22)

God’s peace cushions the soul during difficult times.

Christians can experience a cushion of peace in their souls regardless of their troubled surroundings. That’s because they belong to God, who is the source of peace; they serve Christ, who is the Prince of Peace; and they are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who is the agent of peace

That’s because we belongs to God, who is the source of peace; we serve Christ, who is the Prince of Peace; and we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who is the agent of peace(when you become a Christian you are granted the gift of peace, )

God is the purist example of peace (, )

What we need even more than deliverance from trouble is the sure knowledge that God is with us in the midst of trouble. That is the secret of peace. Emmanuel. God with us.

The Secret of Peace: the sure knowledge that God is with us in the midst of trouble. Emmanuel (God with us)

Thus, David put it prospective for us:

() Set the Lord before you: Because He is at your right hand, He will not let you be shaken.

the one thing that prompted God to release His preserving power upon David:

David kept the Lord before him continually. With God at his right hand, David would not be moved by anyone or anything.

The right hand has great significance in the Bible.

The right hand Is the place of… exaltation, honor, and authority (; ; ) support () protection and provision (109:31; 121:5) security and defense (; ) guidance and direction ()

What does it really mean to set the Lord before you? First, when you set the Lord before you, you are both proclaiming and claiming the Lord as your God.

Set the Lord in your everyday life...making Him a part of everything you do throughout the day. (, , )

As David expanded on the goodness of God and the Lord’s preservation of his life, his heart overflowed with joy. He described his heart as being glad and his glory rejoicing(“my whole being rejoices.”)

() Rejoice in the great hope God has given. a. The conquest of death (vv. 9-10). b. The fullness of life: God has shown you the path to walk in order to experience the fullness of life (v. 11). c. The joy of eternal life (v. 11).

“Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” ().
“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” ().
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” ().
“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” ().
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” ().
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” ().
